CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia has not played in Vanderbilt since 1975. Hurricane Florence is a game changer.
U.Va. confirmed Tuesday that his Saturday home game against Ohio will be at Vanderbilt Stadium, a 40,550-seat stadium on campus in Nashville, Tennessee.
The game is scheduled for 16:30
"Our top priority is the safety of everyone involved and I appreciate the understanding of our fans," said Virginia Athletic Director Carla Williams in a statement. "We are extremely grateful to Vanderbilt University and Vice Chancellor Athletics and Academic Affairs and Director of Sport David Williams for supporting our efforts. We look forward to returning to Scott Stadium for the Louisville game on September 22nd. "
Nashville is about 550 kilometers from Charlottesville and about 420 miles from Athens, Ohio.
Forecasts predict heavy rain Saturday in Virginia, but, more importantly, state resources – including state troops and EMT – normally called during a home football game, would be needed elsewhere in the Commonwealth.
Virginia Tech hosts East Carolina Saturday. Hurricane Florence having threatened university football matches in Virginia and North Carolina this weekend, VAC teams have been striving to adjust their schedules.
North Carolina has canceled its match with central Florida. North Carolina State has canceled its match against West Virginia, although both schools are still working to find a makeup date. Thursday night's Wake Forest match against Boston College was postponed to 5:30 pm. start.
