The speculation surrounding the break between Gretzky and Johnson accelerated over the weekend, after the Great One's daughter had erased all traces of the golfer from his Instagram. This was followed by a report from the Sun that a relationship with California socialist Yassie Safai was the reason behind Gretzky's actions. Safai firmly denied this report on Tuesday.
"I met Dustin Johnson at the Sherwood Country Club. I've met him at Sherwood maybe 4 times since and yes, he spoke briefly with him, as I'm sure any golfer and passionate member would do it, "Safai wrote on Instagram.
"I'm sure it 's a great person but we do not have close friendships. I've never met Paulina Gretzky and I do not know the Gretzky family, but again, I'm sure they're great people.
Gretzky and Johnson have been engaged since 2013 and share two sons, Tatum, 3 years old and River, 1.
Safai, a 39-year-old golf enthusiast, came across Johnson after the US Open 2016, according to The Sun. She made her Instagram private citing the "dark side of social media" after Monday's report and only changed that to clarify her status – or lack thereof – with Johnson.
A source close to the Gretzky clan tells TMZ that the couple is still together. The insider did not provide any details regarding Gretzky's Instagram purge.
"I have no idea of the rumors surrounding the relationship between Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky," Safai wrote. "I wish them only the best. I just want to go back to live my normal life. "
