MINNEAPOLIS According to AccuWeather, a forecasting service, it is supposed to be 58 degrees with clouds at night in Oakland on October 3rd.
The Yankees might want to think about how to dress accordingly.
Their grip on the right to host the American League Wild League slid again on Tuesday with an embarrassing 10-5 loss to the Twins.
The crowd watched Minnesota, now 11 games under the 500, and played for nothing, pitcher Sonny Gray and the Yankees' base, a day after the Yankees crushed them.
And manager Aaron Boone's A team dropped just two games, while Oakland beat Baltimore earlier in the evening.
The Yankees are unlikely to miss the playoffs. The Mariners are chasing Oakland by eight games and the Rays by 8 1/2.
The Yankees would have to collapse to make this happen.
But a one-and-done? Just like in 2015, when the Astros finished the Yankees early?
Why not?
What this means
The Yankees have only won four of their last 10 games, which is inexcusable, given that they are at the end of a three-city road trip that included stops at Oakland and at Seattle.
The Yankees played five and a half games in Oakland on September 1st.
What happened?
We will not get bogged down in the bloody details.
It was bad, though.
In the second run, Didi Gregorius tripled, lining a ball over the shortstop and beating center Jake Cave who misused. Gregorius scored on Gary Sanchez's subsequent fly ball in the left field.
The Yankees were up 1-0.
Then Gray reminded the Yankees why they removed him from the rotation on August 2nd.
He conceded three points (two wins) in three sets, throwing 63 throws while walking three, allowing three hits and two strikeouts. He was not helped by his personal receiver Austin Romine, whose ball allowed the first race of the Twins to score. With the bases loaded, Romine is put in place and Gray throws it even higher, the ball bouncing on the glove of Romine and on the back. Joe Mauer scored.
Boone brought rookie Jonathan Loaisiga to 3-1 in the fourth inning. It was Loaisiga's second career appearance and it did not go well. He was charged with six earned runs in 1 1/3 inning.
Loaisiga came out with the bases loaded in favor of Tommy Kahnle, who gave up a grand slam in central field to Joe Mauer who made 10-1 in Minnesota. Mauer received a call from the crowd curtain at home.
Didi Gregorius contributed to the Grand Slam in the sixth inning. After three hits on Monday, Gary Sanchez started at DH and became helpless.
Oh, and the Twins left with a bull's day, starting with Tyler Duffey, who came in the evening with a 9am ERA.
