Josh Allen will become the second rookie quarterback in the 2018 class to start when the Buffalo Bills face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, the team and league sources told Chris Mortensen on Wednesday.
Bills coach Sean McDermott should make it official Wednesday.
The decision by McDermott and his team came after a full assessment of Sunday's 47-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, sources said. Allen, who was drafted with the seventh overall pick, replaced quarterback Nathan Peterman in the third quarter and finished 6-for-15 for 74 yards and was sacked three times.
It would be unfair to expect much better from Allen than with Nathan Peterman in Week 1 in Baltimore.

Allen's athleticism and ability to perform intermediate shots were positive factors, and staff think these things will improve the game of the race, sources told ESPN.
"I thought he'd made decisive throws in some windows, he also used his feet," McDermott said about Allen after Sunday's game. "I thought he was very good with the group and the attack on the line of scrimmage, other than that we're going to watch the film and evaluate it."
Peterman will serve in the backup role behind Allen
While the Ravens dominated the offensive line, sources said Sunday's assessment of the game had awarded three of the six sacks to the quarterbacks.
