Bills should replace Nathan Peterman after a fresh start, turn to rookie Josh Allen

For the second time in two years, quarterback Buffalo Bills Nathan Peterman will be put to the test after a disastrous start. According to a report by Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, Peterman is no longer the starting quarterback of the Bills. Instead, Josh Allen will spend week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Peterman was just horrible in the first week against the Baltimore Ravens, completing just 5 of 18 passes for 24 yards and two interceptions. He was pulled out of the game in favor of Allen, who scored 6 of 15 for 74 yards.

More on the NFL

It was Peterman's third career start, and this one was somehow better than the first. Last year, in a showdown with the Chargers, Peterman made 6 of 14 attempts for 66 yards and five interceptions in the first period, before being replaced by Tyrod Taylor, who was again appointed full-time. Peterman started another match later in the season (the snowball match against the Colts) when Taylor had to miss the match due to an injury. Once Taylor was healthy, he resumed his place in the starting lineup.

The Bills exchanged Taylor in Cleveland during the off-season, then signed AJ McCarron and traded to draft Allen. It seemed that Peterman would be an afterthought on their quarter depth chart. Instead, they traded McCarron to Oakland shortly before the start of the season and named Peterman the starter and planned to give Allen a few games on the bench before bringing him into the lineup. But the poor performance of Peterman made this plan uninteresting. (Of the 755 players in NFL history who made at least 50 assists, Peterman earned a career-high 25.76 in 696th.)

Now, Allen must begin his career by facing the defenses of the Chargers and Vikings during two consecutive weeks, a difficult task for any quarter, not to mention a rookie who made his first start in career.
