At this point, things have been calm on the forefront of promotion for the UFC 229 championship bout between champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.
It's about to change.
The UFC announced today that next week, September 20, a press conference with UFC President, Dana White, Nurmagomedov and McGregor, will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The event will be closed to the public; only the media will have access.
UFC 229 will be held on October 6 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will air in the following session on the preliminaries on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass. Nurmagomedov (26-0 MMA, 10-0 UFC) against McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) will be the stars of the show.
Last month, White said he was "confident" that Nurmagomedov against McGregor could lead the UFC 229 to 2 million pay-per-view transactions and did not rule out the possibility of $ 3 million. That would set a record for the UFC, eclipsing the 1.6 million mark for UFC 202, which was titled by a rematch between McGregor and Nate Diaz.
The long-awaited battle between Nurmagomedov and McGregor comes after the Notorious attack on a bus carrying Nurmagomedov on UFC 223 media day in April. The fight will also mark McGregor's return to the MMA after his boxing defeat last summer at Floyd Mayweather.
McGregor has not fought inside the Octagon since November 2016, defeating Eddie Alvarez to become the first two UFC division's simultaneous champion. McGregor was stripped of his lightweight title, which Nurmagomedov claimed with a dominant victory over Al Iaquinta at UFC 223.
