Jake Odorizzi is not part of the sad story of the Twins against the Yankees. He has his own story with them. But Wednesday night, he almost fell in the history of the Twins.

On Wednesday, Odorizzi beat the biggest enemy of the Twins for 7-inning runs, using a confusing mix of split fingers and 94-mph fast balls to neutralize the Yankees' powerful training. But after a one-shot march to Luke Voit in the eighth, Greg Bird spoiled Odorizzi's No-hit offer by hitting a fastball in the foreground on the warning track in front of the spiders.

The Bullpen Twins, however, won 3-1, giving Minnesota their first consecutive wins against New York in a single season since 2013.

Odorizzi had flirted with near perfection against the Yankees before, in what must have been a bittersweet memory. On May 29, 2016, the right-hander, then with the Rays, carried a batter in the seventh inning. But after a walk by Brett Gardner, Starlin Castro broke the game with a two-run homer, which earned him defeat in New York's 2-1 victory.
