Odorizzi takes eighth place, Yankees and series

Jake Odorizzi is not part of the sad story of the Twins against the Yankees. He has his own story with them. But Wednesday night, he almost fell in the history of the Twins.

On Wednesday, Odorizzi beat the biggest enemy of the Twins for 7-inning runs, using a confusing mix of split fingers and 94-mph fast balls to neutralize the Yankees' powerful training. But after a one-shot march to Luke Voit in the eighth, Greg Bird spoiled Odorizzi's No-hit offer by hitting a fastball in the foreground on the warning track in front of the spiders.

The Bullpen Twins, however, won 3-1, giving Minnesota their first consecutive wins against New York in a single season since 2013.

Odorizzi had flirted with near perfection against the Yankees before, in what must have been a bittersweet memory. On May 29, 2016, the right-hander, then with the Rays, carried a batter in the seventh inning. But after a walk by Brett Gardner, Starlin Castro broke the game with a two-run homer, which earned him defeat in New York's 2-1 victory.

This time, the twins provided a bigger cushion for Odorizzi, although it took a long time. After awarding a single to Joe Mauer, leading the first inning, Yankees right-hander Luis Severino wiped it out in a double play and pulled out 15 consecutive Twins.

But in the sixth inning, Max Kepler broke the spell and the Yankees' quarter, with a single left, and he easily scored the first run of the game when Ehire Adrianza scored a double in the right corner. .

One race later, the Twins named Yankees reliever David Robertson for two more runs. Jake Cave started the rally with a double and scored on Willians Astudillo's single. When Kepler followed with an explosion in the center left deep for which Aaron Hicks dipped but was not up, Astudillo shoved the bases to give a lead of three points to Odorizzi.

The game featured the typical tension of a non-batter, with an additional source of worry: the number of Odorizzi shots. After finishing five runs, including two marches, Odorizzi shot 88 shots and manager Paul Molitor had some relief exercises. But Odorizzi pulled the Yankees on 14 shots in the sixth inning, and it took just seven goals to record three outs in the seventh, bringing his total to 109. Odorizzi received a big boost when he took the eighth.

The cheers were much stronger after Bird's spoiler. The fans were standing up as the Twins armored vehicles gathered on the mound, joined by Molitor a few moments later. The roar reached a crescendo when Odorizzi took off his cap and waved it as a thank you.

Remarks

• Mitch Garver captured the first two ends of the match, but after taking a ball in his mask, he was replaced by Astudillo in the third inning. Garver passed the concussion tests, the twins announced later.

• Eddie Rosario's tight left quad is not yet 100% cured, but he's close, said Molitor. Pretty close to go back to programming, actually. "He was looking forward to playing yesterday and was probably disappointed when I told him we were going to wait another day. He wants to get in, "said Molitor. "I saw him running and I felt like he could give me the effort I 've seen right now, it should be okay. His swings are so important.
