DENVER (AP) – DJ LeMahieu has found himself in the spotlight even though he does not care much about being in the limelight.

That's what homers will do. Especially the first of his career, in full division race.

LeMahieu hit a two-run homer at Yoshihisa Hirano in the ninth inning and the Colorado Rockies of NL West defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 on Wednesday night.

"It was cool – just a good time," said LeMahieu. "It was awesome."

LeMahieu threw a fastball over the fence while the Rockies retained their one-and-a-half advantage over Los Angeles after the Dodgers defeated Cincinnati earlier in the day. The Diamondbacks lost 3½ games in the division race. This is the last of the season when the Rockies have been alone in first place since 1995.

One night after his first career stop, Hirano (4-3) allowed a single Gerardo Parra to leave the first player Paul Goldschmidt to start the ninth. Charlie Blackmon pushed Parra to second place and LeMahieu followed with a homerun. He was sprayed with water after crossing his home plate while fans chanted "DJ, DJ, DJ!"

"I was just looking to drive the ball, it was a lot of fun," said LeMahieu.

Hirano's presentation at LeMahieu was the last mistake of an Arizona wing in trouble where some roles were juggled.

"He just made a mistake," said Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo. "He threw a fastball that could be taken in the other direction.

LeMahieu's ninth inning was dominated by the Colorado Bullpen's five-run performance, including two by Chris Rusin and Scott Oberg. Wade Davis (3-6) took the win with a ninth clear round, including two strikeouts.

This is the first time the Rockies team has launched five perfect innings in franchise history, according to the team.

"Impressive, the paddock could do our job tonight, throw lots of zeros and give our team a chance," said Oberg. "In this building, anything can happen from an offensive point of view."

Nolan Arenado had a good night with the Rockies with two doubles, including a double in the second and a solo circuit.

The LeMahieu explosion tainted the departure of Diamondbacks player Patrick Corbin, who allowed 10 hits in the season but struggled. He made 6 1/3 innings and awarded three points.

The most crucial pitch of the southpaw was a slider to eliminate LeMahieu with the bases loaded in the fourth.

The Arizona coach sank a little in eighth position and made two walks. The pitcher Archie Bradley has scored two goals and Carlos Gonzalez is noticeable.

Eduardo Escobar's third round was his 21st of the season and his sixth place with the Diamondbacks since his acquisition of the Minnesota Twins on July 27th. Alex Avila added a solo tour.

"It's difficult, hard to lose in these circumstances," Lovullo said. "It hurts."

Since 2015, the Diamondbacks are now 17-6 against Colorado in games played in September or later, including in the NL championship win last October.

Rockies starter Jon Gray worked a night where he did not have his best stuff. It lasted four innings and allowed four points.

"I would not be smiling like that if we had not won the match as we did," Gray said.

When asked if he was looking at dashboards, manager Bud Black joked, "It's hard not to do it." We have a nice dashboard there. "

Playing on the field, Gonzalez has a close-up view of the dashboard over his shoulder.

"When we're not winning, I'm going like this," he said, turning his back as if he were looking at the dashboard. "Just to make sure the other team is not doing better."

WEIGHING

Arenado and Trevor Story both begin to be mentioned in the MVP NL race. Gonzalez's vote would be simple – both.

"Whatever it is, I will be extremely happy," he said about the possibility that a teammate wins the prize.

Arizona RHP Clay Buchholz (7-2, 2.01 ERA) makes his first career start at Coors Field in the final of a four-game series with Colorado on Thursday. The Rockies will pitch LHP Kyle Freeland (14-7, 2.91), which is 8-2 at home this season. The game will be a show of the MLB Facebook Watch.
