John Legend joins the voice as coach for season 16

On Thursday, NBC announced that John Legend would join The voice as a judge for season 16, released this spring.

"I am delighted to join the coaches of The voice.Legend said in a press release on the exciting news.

"I've been invited and mentored many times and look forward to seeing talented singers and helping them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL, "he added.

The legend will replace host Jennifer Hudson and join Kelly Clarkson and her longtime hosts Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

The legend had already appeared on the show as an advisor to Levine's team in 2017.

Legend, who played Jesus in the live production of NBC, is also nominated for an outstanding actor in a limited series or movie, which will be announced at Primetime Emmys next week.
