5 Seconds of Summer bare their souls, metaphorically via their skeletons, in the new video of "Valentine". The song appears on their recent album par excellence, Youngblood.
Directed by Ashton Irwin of 5SOS and photographer Ande DeLuca, the video shows the disembodied heads of the group who sing their romantic lyrics. The feelings of the song are expressed emotionally and physically through skeletal images, dazzling balloons and floating cherry pies.
"I can get you out, oh oh / We can kill someday, stay home," they sing on the chorus. "Throw balloons, teddy bears and chocolate eclairs / I have nothing but love for you, fall in love every day / Valentine.
"Collaboration has always been one of the most important things about 5 Seconds Of Summer since the first day and co-directing the video with Andy has been an amazing and very fluid experience," said Irwin in a statement. "We wanted to capture a few things; Androgyny and the feminine element of the way Luke plays, as well as the dark novel of the song. This video brings us something and tries to be part of every detail of what we create.
5SOS is in North American tour of 25 cities, culminating at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California on October 12th.
