Washington Nationals coach Dave Martinez made scathing remarks after referee Laz Diaz and star striker Bryce Harper fought in a game against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
Harper and Diaz quarreled a lot at night. It started when Harper disagreed with a call in the fifth inning and continued when Harper was in the middle of the field as they screamed at each other in the next round.
He stopped before reaching a boiling point in the seventh when Diaz started a shot on a throw that seemed to be off the board. Harper is disputed with Diaz while looking straight ahead, without making eye contact with the referee.
Martinez came out of the dugout to support Harper, but Diaz was not ejected either.
"I'm not going to comment on the bullets and the strikes there, but the referees are supposed to be non-confrontational, they are supposed to keep the peace on the baseball field," Martinez said. "For me, I think the MLB has to look into it.It's all I'm going to say.I know Laz for a very long time and I'm not going to throw anyone in the bus, but We are in a crucial moment of the game, and he says things to Harp, and I thought it was useless. "
Harper said after the match that he was not surprised not to have been thrown out.
"You know, it's my biggest thing this year is that I do not want to be thrown in. So I think I'm going to the edge of the chasm, and then I calm down a bit," he said. Harper. "I do not ever want to get a bat, especially with guys on the base."
