Two men in Washington State were charged with fentanyl trafficking on Friday disguised as fake oxycodone tablets in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties.
Two men in Washington State were charged on Friday after a multi-month investigation that led authorities to seize $ 1 million in cash, 33 firearms and thousands of fentanyl pills, according to court records .
At the end of July, federal authorities monitored 30-year-old Griffin Thompson of Bellingham as he stopped at Bradley Woolard, 39, in Arlington, the Seattle Times reported.
Woolard and Thompson were suspected of being involved in distributing fentanyl tablets designed to look like oxycodone in several counties in western Washington, said US Attorney Annette L. Hayes for the West District of Washington.
According to a court statement, investigators found that $ 8,000 in cash and 1,000 fentanyl tablets packaged to look like oxycodone were present at a roadside check. Fentanyl is a highly addictive synthetic opioid, more potent than morphine.
The next day, the authorities searched Woolard's home and found 10,000 fentanyl tablets, 33 firearms and $ 980,000 in cash, according to court documents.
US Woolard was arrested on September 1 while attempting to cross the US-Mexico border, according to the US Attorney's Office.
Thompson was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts: conspiracy and possession of fentanyl with the intention of selling. He was scheduled to appear before the US District Court in Seattle on Friday.
Woolard, who has been charged with drugs in the priory since 2004, was charged Friday with five counts of drug distribution and illegal possession of firearms. Prosecutors said he is being held in San Diego and will appear in court later this month, the Times reported.
