Red Sox right-winger Hector Velazquez was eliminated from his scheduled departure tonight against the Mets at Fenway Park with illness and another right-hander, William Cuevas, will start, the team said.

This will be the first major league start for Cuevas, 28, recalled from Pawtucket after the lineups expanded on September 1 st. He played four relief games and awarded three points in 7 1/3 innings.
Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (11-3, 3.44 ERA) will oppose the first game of the three-game series. The Sox enter with their magic number to win the title of the American League East at 6.
