The production of Volkswagen Beetle will end in 2019

Volkswagen has officially confirmed the end of production of the Beetle, one of the most iconic models of automotive history in the world. Two recent special editions, which will be rolled out in the VW plant in Mexico, will mark the end of an 80-year-old chapter.

The latest variants of the third generation, the Beetle, launched in 2011 – the final SE version and the final SEL version – feature unique colors, exclusive equipment upgrades and new interior design options. .

Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, admitted that "the loss of the Beetle after three generations, for nearly seven decades, will bring many emotions to the many dedicated fans of the Beetle."

He continued, "While we are becoming a family-oriented car manufacturer in the United States and accelerating our electrification strategy with the SEM platform, there is no immediate plan to replace it. ".

However, he hinted that this might not be the end of the Beetle, as it could reappear in the company's line-up at some point, commenting "never say never" in a statement.

The design of the original Beetle began in the 1930s, with production starting in 1938 and continuing in some markets until 2003. A "New Beetle" was introduced to international markets in 1997 and was based on the Golf platform.

While the decision not to introduce a new version of the ladybug was made earlier, the iconic sedan should be replaced by the retro-inspired electric ID Buzz concept.

In India, Volkswagen launched the New Beetle in late 2009, then introduce the updated model on our market in 2015. This model was powered by a 1.4-liter, 150-hp, turbo-petrol petrol engine that was exclusively coupled with an automatic 7-speed dual-clutch system. The Mini Cooper S and the Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione were the rivals of the retro-cool sedan. This version of the Beetle was discontinued in India in February 2018 due to weak sales.
