In addition, European Space Agency astronaut Alexander Gerst went on Twitter Wednesday to share photos of the hurricane from space, while highlighting the severity of the storm.
Hurricane Florence is "so huge," says the tweet, despite the fact that, in space, astronauts could only capture the storm with a very wide-angle lens.
In another image tweeted by Gerst on Wednesday (including one of NASA's images of the day), the severity of the storm is clearly visible.
"Ever seen the gaping eye of a category 4 hurricane? It's scary, even from space," Gerst subtitled the photos.
Another photo (below) was taken on September 10th by astronaut Ricky Arnold aboard the International Space Station. The photo shows the turbulent storm that, according to Arnold, was later joined by Hurricane Isaac and Hurricane Helene.
