Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires continue to grow; new fires at Herriman, Magna evacuations of force

As fire crews try to slow down the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires, which increased by more than 17,000 acres on Friday night, a new fire caught fire in Herriman, burning buildings and forcing their evacuation.

On Saturday afternoon, the Pole Brook and Bald Mountain fires in Utah and Juab counties reached a total area of ​​86,107 acres. According to a press release from the Utah County Sheriff's Office, they have displaced about 6,000 people living in the communities of Woodland Hills, Elk Ridge and Covered Bridge, in addition to those living along the American state, from Nebo Creek to Thistle Junction.

According to the release, people living in the Diamond Fork Canyon and Sheep Creek area have been pre-evacuated.

The fire also forced officials to close Saturday, February 6, the American satellite Spanish Fork Canyon. The United States 89 in this area remains closed from marker 312 at Thistle Junction to the Utah-Sanpete County boundary.

Hundreds of Type 1 firefighters invaded the fire zone Saturday, hoping to suppress the flames, but firefighters said the high winds could hinder the teams' efforts.

Meanwhile, in Herriman, United Fire Authority firefighters were called around 13:50. to fight a "fast, wind-driven" grass fire in the Butterfield Canyon area. Residents of Hi Country Estates Phase 1 were evacuated. The road to the neighborhood was closed at 7300 Herriman Road.

UFA spokesman Matthew McFarland said the fire is being reinforced by gusts of 30 to 40 mph and that he has destroyed two structures, including a house.

About 150 people were assigned to fight the fire, the spokesman said.

The Great Salt Lake State Park site in Magna was also closed and evacuated Saturday because of a fire. The fire was reported for the first time just before 3 pm. at 11800 West and Interstate 80, according to a 911 dispatcher.
