General Motors announced Thursday that it will recall 1.2 million pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles due to a software problem that could temporarily cause power assisted steering.
Models concerned
According to Fox News, the problem concerns the following 2015 models: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, as well as Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
Most of the vehicles involved are in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The move comes after GM recalled the 2014 trucks in 2017 to solve the same problem. This recall affected nearly 700,000 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks.
Risk of accident at low speed
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, if the problem of power steering occurs "then suddenly comes back, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speed, which increases the risk of collision."
GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson said the company had received reports of 30 accidents and two injuries; no deaths were associated with the recall.
GM Dealers will notify vehicle owners of the recall and then update the power steering module software for free. The software update is apparently already available so customers can start planning their vehicle repairs now.

Ford F-150 Reminder
GM's recall comes days after Ford announced the recall of nearly 2 million F-150 trucks due to a fire hazard.
The trucks involved in the recall include the large cab and cabin cabs of the 2015 to 2018 model years. Ford says that seat belt pretensioners can create "excessive" sparks that can cause a fire. In the United States, the company reported 17 cases of smoke or fire in the United States and six in Canada, none of which caused injuries or lead accidents.
According to Ford, an investigation revealed that some front seat belt pretensioners may generate excessive sparks and that, in the presence of sufficient sparks, the gases evacuated inside the B-pillar (a support structure located between the front doors and back) can light up. If this gas ignites, components such as insulation and carpet may ignite.
The affected vehicles include Ford F-150 vehicles from 2015 to 2018 built in Dearborn, Michigan from March 2014 to August 2018 and Kansas City, Missouri from August 2014 to August 2018. Vehicles were sold in the United States , Canada and Mexico. 1,995,776 of them are sold in North America only.
If your vehicle is participating in the recall, dealers remove the insulating material from the B-pillar trim, along with the remnants of wiring tape in the area, and then apply heat-resistant tape to the carpet and its insulation. The interior rear panels of regular cab vehicles will also be modified. All repairs will be provided free of charge to the truck owner.
The recall comes after the federal government launched a preliminary investigation into reports of fire in five trucks. At each incident, the fire occurred after an accident.
