Devin Nunes joins the calls to Russia

House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes said on Sunday that transcripts and documents from witnesses of the chamber's investigation in Russia should be made public before the mid-November elections.

"We believe that the depositions we have taken, I think about 70 people, must be published and that they must be published, I think, before the elections," said Nunes, R-Calif. Fox News Sunday. "

Nunes added, "I intend to make this information available to our committee to the US public in the coming weeks."

Nunes's comments echoed those of his colleague, Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., Who told The Hill on Wednesday that "the results would be of benefit to the public".

"There is no involvement in national security," added Gowdy. "There are no sources and methods out there."

The calls of the two GOP legislators came after Democrats in the House repeatedly asked for documents to be made public.

"The majority said they were in favor of publishing these transcripts," Republican Representative Adam Schiff, D-Calif, said in March. "We will test if they really do."

Some GOP legislators have expressed concern that making transcripts of interviews public may affect their ability to compel witnesses to testify in future investigations.

Nunes, who said "70 or 80 percent" of the depositions are already unclassified, said President Trump had no choice but to release the rest.

"I think it's not a choice," Nunes said. "If the President wants the American people to understand how broad and invasive this investigation has been for many Americans and how unfair it has been, it has no choice but to downgrade."
