A spa in Albuquerque, Missouri, received a ceasefire letter this week after potentially exposing clients who received "vampire treatments" for HIV and other blood-borne infections, reported CNN Thursday 13 September.
Officials from the New Mexico Department of Health said that a VIP Spa client in Albuquerque had developed an infection resulting from a spa procedure. Now, health officials are urging clients who have visited the spa to be screened for HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
Dr. Ehsan Ali, an internal medicine physician in Beverly Hills, told CNN that the plasma contains the nutrients and proteins needed to stimulate new skin and new collagen growth. The plasma is placed on the face and reinjected into the skin with the help of a device called a micro-needling, which creates tiny perforations in the skin with miniature needles.
Infections can occur if the equipment is not removed or properly sterilized between facials.
