Gareth Evans teams up with Netflix for this early twentieth-century drama about a religious cult.

Gareth Evans is loved for his action franchise "The Raid", and he now hopes to bring the same level of horror show to the next "Apostle". The film, the last of Netflix, equips the director with Dan Stevens, the favorite of the Legion.

"Apostle" takes place in 1905 and follows a prodigal son (Stevens) while he ventures into an island to save his sister from a religious cult. The group is led by the charismatic Malcolm prophet (Michael Sheen), who suspects that the new visitor to the island might not tell the truth about his identity. Lucy Boynton and Mark Lewis Jones co-star.

Netflix has launched the first trailer of "Apostle" below, and it's a crazy introduction to the film's central cult. Anyone who has nausea at the sight of blood will probably want to stay away from "the apostle". The film seems to be a descent into the bloodthirsty madness, without any shortage of religious rituals.

Stevens' film career was recently marked by the family film "The Man Who Invented Christmas" and the historical drama "Marshall", which make "Apostle" an exciting change of pace for the actor. Stevens' "Her Smell" debuted at TIFF earlier this month and next year opened Noah Hawley's "Pale Blue Dot" drama.

"Aspotle" will be available on Netflix from October 12th. The film will be premiering in Austin, Texas, later this month.
