A monkey is on the run after escaping his cage at a research center in Louisiana on Saturday.
The 12-pound Rhesus macaque monkey, which was spotted on Sunday near a wooded area, was released after a "cage failure" at the New Iberia Research Center of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, according to an article published on Facebook by the university.
"The animal is born in the center," the message says, and "it's used for people, but it's not a pet and should not be approached. The center's staff is actively working on the recovery of the animal. "
The university said the monkey is part of a research group and carries no communicable diseases.
