Monday's sunny weather should make way for heavy rains as the remains of Florence approach the region.
The National Weather Service has launched a flash watch for southern New England from Monday evening to Tuesday evening.
"The torrential rain showers are expected to develop very late tonight and continue until Tuesday afternoon," forecasters wrote. "Generalized rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected … but a narrow band of 4 to 6 inches of rain is possible and can fall very quickly."
According to forecasters, "the place where the rain is heaviest is uncertain", but some areas could receive up to 3 inches of rain in one hour.
There is little risk of an isolated tornado on the southern interior of New England on Tuesday, officials said. Road closures are a possibility, especially in lowland areas and along riverbanks.
