A sheriff's deputy from Sacramento County was killed and another injured after a shootout at an auto parts store in Rancho Cordova on Monday.
Deputy Mark Stasyuk, 27, died Monday afternoon after being shot in the upper body, Sheriff Scott Jones said outside the scene. Stasyuk was a veteran of the 4 and a half year old department.
Assistant Julie Robertson, 28, was shot in the arm. Robertson, a 2 1/2 year old veteran, is expected to recover from his injuries.
The shooting, which also injured a spectator, occurred just before 2 pm. in the area of Folsom Boulevard and Olson Drive, at a Pep Boys Auto Parts store, based on police traffic.
At approximately 1:50 pm, shots were fired at the Folsom Boulevard store, according to audio transmitted by Broadcastify. According to Shaun Hampton Department spokesman, the second shot was on the parking lot next to the property.
About a minute later, the listener states that the suspect is heading west. A male agent later states that the suspect was arrested. "OK, we have the suspect down. We have it at the end of the gun, "said the unidentified MP.
MPs reported that the suspect was found in the parking lot of the nearby furniture store. MPs reportedly detained the suspect under the threat of a firearm.
"He is lying face down on the floor," said an assistant dispatcher. "His weapon is north of him about 25 feet from his location."
Another audio signal describes the suspect as not cooperating with MPs and "moving his arms but not respecting our verbal".
A female officer, presumably Robertson, can then be heard reporting that her partner was shot and fell, and that she was also shot and wounded. "Are you touching your arm and your partner is down?" Confirms the dispatcher.
The fire signal indicates that two people were transported to UC Davis and one to the Mercy San Juan Medical Center. An injured person has been described as a 24-year-old man.
One victim was a passerby, according to Hampton. It was not immediately clear who shot the viewer.
MPs reported that the suspect was arrested and transported by ambulance to a local hospital. A woman who entered the store with the suspect was also detained, according to the audio consignment.
The spokesman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, Captain Chris Vestal, said that four people had been transported to the hospital and that a fifth person had refused medical transportation.
