The most comforting moment of the Emmys has arrived at an unusual moment: during the award for the best achievement of a series of varieties.
This is not a blow for the price itself, as the competition was fierce. But this is not exactly the time when viewers expect to tear, gasp or text their loved ones: "It was so cute!" But if social media is an indication, it's exactly what happened.
Glenn Weiss won the award for ABC's Oscars. But that's not what most people will remember, because he quickly plunged into a deeply personal territory in his speech.
"I'm really grateful to be here. But it's bittersweet, he said tearing. "The most proud person right now would be my mother and she died two weeks ago. Part of my heart is broken and I do not think it will be repaired. But she is in me.
Weiss added that his mother has always suggested keeping the sun. And it was then that he really shocked the audience by speaking directly to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen, who was sitting in the audience.
"Jan, you're the sun in my life and mom was right [when she said]"Never let go of my sun," he said. "Do you know why I do not like calling my girlfriend?" Because I want to call my wife.

"Jan, I want to put this ring that my mother has fingered in front of all these people and in front of my mother and your parents looking from above," he said before getting on his knees. .
The audience exploded, pronouncing the four words that could define tonight's Emmys.

She said yes and they shared a passionate kiss.
Then he finished his speech by saying, "Thanks to the Academy!"
Social media was delighted.
A user called it "the best wedding proposal of all time". Weiss "just set the bar too high", another joked.

It turned out that Weiss asked for a few extra minutes for his great proposal. Given the magnitude of the awards, this could have caused some consternation, although none has appeared. Still, Kevin Fallon of the Daily Beast underlined on Twitter "The best part of this marriage proposal is that this guy wins this award for leading a rewards show and he knows that he is probably throwing the control room into total chaos right now."
