Russian cosmonauts go out into space to investigate leak

MOSCOW – A space official says Russian cosmonauts will venture outside the International Space Station to inspect a section where a mysterious leak has been uncovered.

The leak was spotted last month in the Russian vessel Soyuz attached to the station. The crew of three Americans, two Russians and one German quickly located and sealed the tiny hole that created a slight loss of pressure.

Sergei Krikalyov, head of the Russian Space Agency's Roscosmos space missions, said on Tuesday that the Russian crew will conduct a spacewalk on November 15 to inspect the outer surface of the Soyuz. He said that they should discover the thermal insulation covering the patched hole and inspect it.

Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin has already stated that the hole could have been drilled during manufacture or in orbit.
