MIDDLETON, WI – A man accused of shooting and injuring three people inside the building of a Middleton-based software company was shot dead by police and died as a result of his injuries at a local hospital, according to a report. informations.
Middleton Police Chief Chuck Foulke held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon in front of Esker Software headquarters at 1850 Deming Way in Middleton. He reported that three people had been injured and treated in hospitals in the area. Foulke stated that three of the shooter's victims had been seriously injured and that the fourth had suffered a minor injury when wounded by a bullet.
Foulke said at a subsequent press conference that the shooter had in his possession a semi-automatic pistol with additional magazines. Foulke said that he did not know the shooter's background, nor his possible motive.
Foulke also stated that the building where the shooting took place was cleared, no other suspect was involved in the incident and the public was no longer in danger.
At around 10:30 am, police were informed that there was an active shooter at Esker Software, 1850 Deming Way. Many police departments, including the FBI, and ambulances arrived and the area was registered by the public. Hundreds of evacuees were sent to the nearby Residence Inn by Marriott, and all schools in Middleton were locked up. The Greenway Crossing shopping center has also been closed and the perimeter of the police has gradually expanded as snipers have settled and law enforcement agencies have mushroomed.
Judy Lahmers, a business analyst at WTS Paradigm, where the filming took place, told the Associated Pressshe that she was working at her desk when she rang "as if someone dropped planks on the floor, very loud ". Lahmers told AP that she was running as fast as she could and did not return.
At noon Wednesday, Middleton police informed the public that the Middleton schools were safe to end their respective closures, as the threat to their students and staff was over.
According to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal, one of the witnesses to the shooting told the newspaper that he had texted his wife "Oh my God" right after the start of the shooting and that he hid in a room where he heard a dozen shots. Another witness told the Wisconsin State Journal that the shooter was an employee of the WTS Paradigm software company.
