Dickey Betts, guitarist founder of Allman Brothers Band, would be in a critical but stable condition following a "freak accident" at home.
According to a statement released Wednesday on his social networks, singer-songwriter "Ramblin & # 39; Man" was in his backyard in Little Sarasota Bay, Florida, playing with the family dog when he "slipped and cracked "the brain."
The incident occurred on Monday and Betts was sedated in a local hospital undisclosed since, according to the statement. Betts is expected to undergo a brain operation Friday to ease the pressure.
"The family appreciates all your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time," writes his wife Donna. "Dickey is a notorious fighter and he is posting now!"
Last month, the 74-year-old Hall of Famer suffered a "light attack" at his home and had to cancel the dates of the next rounds. He had responded well to his treatment, noted David Spero, Betts long-time friend and manager, although with his latest health concern, a series of concerts for the month of November is canceled. "Dickey was telling me a few days ago how excited he was to come back to the fans on November 1st," Spero said. "It is very unfortunate for all those involved that we should cancel these shows, please add Dickey to your thoughts and prayers."
