We reported a bunch of accidents where Tesla owners credited their vehicles for saving them from serious damage, but probably none as strange as this one.
An owner of Tesla Model X in Texas admitted that his car had "saved" him and a passenger while the electric SUV was hit by a plane crashing.
It arrived near Houston Texas yesterday.
A DEA aircraft encountered mechanical problems during a flight and the pilot decided to attempt to land on a public road.
When the plane approached, he caught power lines and crashed into several vehicles, including The model X of Oniel Kurup.
Fortunately, there were no casualties despite the severity of the accident, but one of the three officers aboard the plane was injured.
The accident makes the front page and Kurup took to Facebook to reassure his friends and family that he was OK:
"Many people have seen this in the news all the time. And I receive calls about our safety. You want all my friends and family to know that Aarav and I are very good. GOD and this car has really saved us today. Not a scratch on us. Nobody believed me when I called them to let them know that an airplane had crashed against me. Tesla, people thought it was a joke call. At first, my wife made fun of me. Joking aside, it was a serious matter, I saw my life blink by the minute. A second is all that is needed.
He shared some pictures of the aftermath of the accident:
The Tesla Model X is the safest SUV in the United States (with a significant margin) with a rating of 5 stars in all categories of safety – although there is certainly no crash test for aircraft.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk commented on the crash last night after another Tesla owner reported on Twitter:
Wow, glad they're ok!

Kurup joins several other X model owners to credit the SUV for their safety in collisions. Last year, owners of A Model X stated that The safety rating of the SUV saved his life after crashing into a trailer and another owner of Model X said he "wanted his family back in a Tesla" after surviving a serious accident .
Tesla has always tried to design its vehicles for safety and has pushed to achieve the best possible security rating, as was the case for the S and X models.
We still have to see all the results of the Model 3 crash tests, but Tesla predicts similar results.
