MEMPHIS, Tennessee (WREG) – This is two people. Both were diagnosed with cancer as children and both were treated at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"I have tears in my eyes when I think about it.I think there is no better marriage between a city and a place than between Memphis and the hospital." St. Jude's children's search, "said Joel Alsup.
There was no better place to marry Joel and Lindsey Alsup than in St. Jude on September 1st.
"It was the first day of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month because all of these things came together to make us happy." Now, it's up to us to pass on this gift, "Lindsey said.

Their journey began 25 years ago. It is at this point that Lindsey was diagnosed with acute leukemia.
"And by the age of 10, I moved from the childhood that preceded her to think that this cancer was a death sentence for me, but fortunately our family found hope and support through the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital., "she says.
Joel was 7 years old when he was diagnosed with a cancerous bone tumor.
"They found a tumor in my right arm, and it was big enough for my arm to break near my shoulder."
Joel would eventually lose his right arm.
The couple developed a friendship during their stay in St. Jude, which has been strengthened.
"When I met this guy, when I was in treatment, I admired him, I admired him, I thought that he was an incredible person." We grew up in our friendship over the years, "said Lindsey.
Several years later, when we both started working at the hospital, Joel decided to take their friendship to another level.
"I finally had the courage to tell him that I loved him, not only that I loved him, but fortunately she felt the same way," he said.
"I would never have understood that I would be sitting by her side, by her side, as a wife, having the privilege of getting married because of the place that saved our lives", said Lindsey.
Lindsey and Joel hope that their story of survival and love will help others in their fight against cancer.
The couple is also promoting the St. Jude walk / hike this Saturday.
