PHOENIX (Reuters) – A utility vehicle carrying seven people suspected of illegally immigrating was hit hard by another car on an Arizona highway, killing eight people, state police said on Thursday.
Three others were seriously injured Wednesday in a collision between a Buick passenger vehicle near Florence, Arizona, and a police spokesman, when a Chevrolet Suburban, which had seven immigrants and two US citizens, has been affected. I said.
The State Department of Public Security had announced that nine people had been killed in the accident.
Department spokesman Quentin Mehr said the SUV was not involved in smuggling activities. He did not know if the driver of the other vehicle was impaired or if someone was wearing a seatbelt.
"This is a very complex investigation and the investigation is still ongoing," Mehr said.
The driver, the front passenger and four of the seven stowaways in the SUV were killed, he added. Three other passengers were taken to the hospital, one with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The two occupants of the other vehicle were killed, Mehr said.
The collision, about 100 km southeast of Phoenix, closed the highway for about six hours.
