Luke Walton: The Lakers will not rush Lonzo Ball (left knee)

Lonzo Ball will not participate in contact training when the Los Angeles Lakers training camp opens next week, said head coach Luke Walton.

Ball, a second-year scorer, underwent arthroscopic surgery on the left knee in mid-July. The Lakers said after the operation that Ball would be fully recovered by the camp, but Walton said they wanted to play safety with him.

"He will attend the camp and he will not make a full 5-on-5 contact at the camp at the beginning of the camp," Walton said in an interview with Spectrum SportsNet that airs at 8pm. PT Wednesday. "So we start calming him down again, playing one-on-one, things like that, half-pitch stuff."
