WASHINGTON – Michael Cohen, a former lawyer and fixer to the president, has provided information to special advisor Robert Mueller, Cohen's lawyer confirmed Thursday night.

Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis, wrote on Twitter that his client had provided "critical information" to the Mueller team, which is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 elections. and on the possible obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump. Davis added that Cohen had no agreement with the Mueller team and that the shot should be considered honest.

"Good for @ michaelcohen212 by providing critical information to the #muellerinvestigation without a cooperation agreement," wrote Davis. "No one should question his honesty, truthfulness, or loyalty to his family and his country on @potus @realdonaldtrump."

Davis' comments came after ABC News reported Thursday that Cohen had been sitting on Mueller's team several times, giving hours of interviews. The investigators focused on Trump's agreements with Russia over the years, including commercial transactions and all potential attorneys who could have influenced the elections.

ABC also reported that the investigators had asked if a pardon was on the table and whether Trump or one of his associates had offered one.

Last month, Mr. Cohen pled guilty to eight counts, including violations of campaign funding related to his payments to women who claimed to have relations with Trump. Cohen's cooperation was voluntary, reported ABC News, adding that he has not been offered any deal that could result in condemnation leniency.

After the publication of the story, Davis declined to comment. A few hours later, he publicly published on Twitter Cohen's cooperation with Mueller.
