Noticing a lack of advertising diversity in a McDonald's restaurant, two Asian teens have come up with a elaborate plan to hang a poster of themselves in the hamburger chain.
KHOU
PEARLAND, Texas – The two friends who shot a viral farce at a McDonald's local are get a small refund: $ 25,000 each.
Jevh Maravilla and Christian Toledo set up a fake marketing poster in fast food in July and no one noticed. Ellen DeGeneres has heard about sneaky students and invited them to participate on her show.
On Monday, she surprised the pair with $ 25,000, courtesy of the fast food chain, for their appearance in an upcoming marketing campaign as part of McDonald's commitment to diversity. DeGeneres also gave them a chart of herself for "sneaking" into McDonald's in the future.
The joke goes back to July when Maravilla and Toledo noticed something that was missing at their favorite fast food point. "We were eating McDonald's one day and we looked around and saw posters that did not have Asians," said Maravilla. "They had other races but not Asians, so we felt it was our duty to put ourselves up there."

On July 13, with the help of some friends, the duo slipped the poster into the restaurant and stuck it when no one was watching. Maravilla wore a McDonald's shirt to blend in with the skin.
Maravilla told DeGeneres that her mother had kicked when he confessed. "When I told her about it, when the poster arrived home, she could not help laughing with my father," he said.
After the poster went unnoticed for more than a month, Maravilla tweeted about the prank and she quickly became viral. McDonald's was a good sport and applauded the students for their creativity.
The restaurant has recently taken a poster because the building is being renovated. But they announced Monday that it will be donated to Ronald McDonald House for a fundraiser.
