Texas Rangers: avoid leaders

Director Jeff Banister was sacked Friday morning before the last home run of the Texas Rangers and there were only 10 games remaining in what could be one of the worst five seasons in club history, the club said. .

Bench coach Don Wakamatsu will serve as Acting Director for the remainder of the season, which ends September 30 in Seattle.

"I informed Jeff Banister of our decision earlier today," said General Manager Jon Daniels in a statement. "I want to thank Jeff for his dedication and effort with the Texas Rangers over the past four years. This organization greatly appreciates what it has contributed to the club on the field and in the community.

"This decision was not easy and was taken after a long evaluation period. However, we believe that a change in the direction of our Major League club is needed as we move forward. Once that conclusion is reached, I thought it appropriate to take the step now. On behalf of the entire organization, I wish the best to Jeff and his family.

The victories and defeats were not the main cause for the Rangers who decided to end his term after almost four full seasons. The Star-Telegram reported Thursday, citing several sources, that club officials were wondering whether it was part of the long-term reconstruction plan.

The sources said that a break between the actors and the manager, rooted in poor communication, had developed – not just this season but in past campaigns. The players were also convinced that their interests were not Banister's number one interest.

Banister was hired after the 2014 season to replace Ron Washington, who resigned abruptly in September. The Rangers won the AHL title in Banister's first season in 2015, riding past the Houston Astros and taking Banister's #nevereverquit mantra.

He has been chosen as AL manager of the year.

The Rangers reiterated their Western Championship title in 2016 and earned the league's best record, but for the second season in a row they were eliminated from the AL division series by the Toronto Blue Jays. After winning the first two games in 2015, the Rangers lost their matches in the ALDS next season.

The West Rangers' reign ended last season, although they were eliminated from the post-season only after the last week of the season.

They entered the season with a reduced payroll and they needed a lot to get by. Things went quickly south, with injuries that played a role, and in June, the Rangers were fully engaged in a "development mode," Daniels said.

But the player-manager relationship has deteriorated in each of Banister's seasons. To illustrate, two sources reported that a group text message circulated shortly after the Rangers took the Banister option for 2019.

A group of players had expressed their concerns about Banister with Daniels before the end of the season and anticipated a change.

"They were hot," said a source.
