MLB launched a survey of Russell in 2017 as part of its domestic violence protocol after the publication of the initial Instagram. Russell was sent home by the Cubs but was never suspended by the league.

Reidy did not speak to Major League Baseball as part of the investigation and Russell denied the allegations upon his return to Chicago.
