The Tesla Model 3 passed its first crash tests, earning five stars overall in the evaluation of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The rear-wheel drive version of the car has gotten perfect marks for front and side impact protection and rollover protection, as have all Tesla sedans and SUVs tested so far.
NHTSA also notes that it has a full suite of electronic safety aids, including collision warnings, automatic emergency brakes and lane departure warnings, but none were used during crash tests.
However, the model 3 semi-autonomous autopilot was ranked first in the recent evaluation of Active Tracking Systems by the Road Safety Assurance Institute.
The IIHS has not yet released crash test ratings for Model 3.
