A Clayton County jury on Friday awarded $ 31 million to a boy for a failed circumcision, a spokesman for his family's law firm said.
It is not yet clear who the defendants will have to pay and how much because the documents are not immediately available. The mother of the child, Stacie Willis, did not want to comment Friday night.
The boy was 18 days old in October 2013 when the stab of Life Cycle Pediatrics in Riverdale cut off a portion of his penis and caused a series of problems. Counsel for the complainant stated that the child, whose name is concealed, suffers mental anguish for years because of his deformity. There is also physical pain due to the chronic crust.
Defense lawyer Terrell W. Benton, who represents the nurse midwife and the physician in charge, told the jury on Thursday that a million dollars should cover the boy's medical expenses, as well as the costs of long-term therapy and suffering.

Pope told the jury that he has struggled for decades to explain the pain in words – physical and mental pain.

The boy's pain began when his mother took him to the clinic, while midwife Melissa Jones could perform circumcision.
With an accidental slip, she cut off the tip of the child's penis, Pope said. Dr. Brian Register, who, like Jones, was found responsible, called the clinic's owner, Anne Sigouin, to alert him. Jones, Register, Sigouin's Life Cycle Pediatrics and OB / GYN Life Cycle, Kamishlian and Daffodil Pediatric and Family Medical are all defendants in this case. Only Jones and Register have ever been found responsible, but the plaintiff asked the jury to pay them all.
Willis said she had to insert an instrument into her son's penis three times a day to prevent it from closing after circumcision. He underwent surgery in Minnesota and Massachusetts, which was facilitated by lawyers on both sides. Defense counsel Benton challenged any suggestion that the nurse midwife and the clinic doctor did not take seriously what had happened:
