A jury in Georgia awarded nearly $ 31 million to a young boy after a failed circumcision had resulted in a partial section of his penis, leaving him with what the doctors consider to be permanent disfigurement.

As noted in the report, the circumcision physician in 2013 accidentally slipped and cut the tip of the boy's penis. Rather than recommending emergency surgery, the doctor instead put the cut tissues in a refrigerator and sent the 5-day-old boy home with his mother. The family's attorney said that the tip of the penis could have been reattached if he had been immediately operated on, but had an injury that could never heal.
After the sloppy circumcision, the boy had to undergo a series of painful procedures and surgeries to allow him to urinate, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. He might need more surgeries when he goes through puberty and may not be able to have children, say the doctors.

Family lawyer said he hoped the case would serve as a warning to health professionals to treat patients more carefully.
"We need to be very careful and trained when we work with our – the health care of our people, especially infants," said Neal Pope's lawyer. Fox 5 Atlanta.
