IOWA CITY, Iowa – If Wisconsin continue to win the title of the 2018 Big Ten West Division, Paul Chryst and his players will be delighted by their 88-yard pass on Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium.

Quarterback Alex Hornibrook crowned the championship course with a 17-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Taylor with 57 seconds remaining; linebacker T.J Edwards intercepted a deflection with 38 seconds to go; and side Alec Ingold ran 33 yards for a touchdown with 22 seconds to go.

This combination allowed UW to win a 28-17 win over rival Iowa in front of 69,250 spectators.

UW (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten) bounced back from its 24-21 loss to BYU with its fifth consecutive win at Kinnick Stadium.

The Badgers have also avoided consecutive losses for the first time under Chryst and have improved to 15-1 in road games since Chryst took the lead in 2015.

Iowa (3-1, 0-1) lost to UW for the fourth time in the past five seasons. UW then won the Big Ten West after defeating Iowa in 2014, '16 and '17.

Hornibrook finished 17 of 22 or 205 yards and three touchdowns.

Jonathan Taylor added 113 yards on 25 runs, but was backed by Taiwan Deal (six litters, 42 yards) Ingold (two litters, 37 yards, one for 33 yards) and Garrett Groshek (eight carries, 33 yards).

Iowa entered the No. 1 night in the Big Ten and No. 2 nationally in total defense (209.0 ypg) and second in the league and second at the national level in defensive defense (42.0 YPG).

The opponents averaged 1.5 yards per race in the first three games of the Hawkeyes.

UW used a jumbo package, featuring additional linemen, Jason Erdmann and Logan Bruss, to move the ball to the ground effectively when needed

Quarterback Nate Stanley, a graduate of Menomonee High School, had better results on Saturday than last season against UW. Stanley 13 of 22 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns, with an interception. He completed only 8 of 24 passes for 41 yards, with one interception, and was fired four times in the 38-14 UW defeat last season.

THE SCORE OF THE BOX: UW 28, Iowa 17

Both teams failed to score in their first attempts, but it was the UW defense that did the hard work at first.

Iowa went from 15 to a second and 6 to the UW 10.

Iowa had 7 yards in UW's fifth-place finish in the third and eighth, on a pass from Stanley in the back Ivory Kelly-Martin.

Stanley tried to sneak for the first goal on the fourth and first but got nothing and UW took over with 4:41 left in the first quarter.

UW offset this revenue to reach Iowa 39 at the end of the first quarter.

Then, in third and second place, UW opted for a jumbo, but Hornibrook went to play and hit Ingold on a 33-yard run at 6.

A match later, UW deployed seven offensive linemen, Erdmann Bruss having joined the group, and Hornibrook hit Jake Ferguson in the back end of the end zone with 14:31 remaining in the half-time.

After the fourth stop, UW led 95 yards in 11 games to take a 7-0 lead.

Impressive.

UW's defense yielded 33 yards of real estate before forcing a kick.

The Badgers went from their 11th to their third and their second to Iowa 46.

Hornibrook plunged into play at Kendric Pryor but Pryor was unable to hold near Iowa 10 after being touched by Amani Hooker's safety.

Iowa took over after the kickoff and selected cornerback Faion Hicks en route to a 77-yard touchdown.

Stanley moved away from pressure in third and ninth place and found tight winger Nate Hockenson for a total of 46 yards at UW 20.

Stanley then hit short wing Noah Fant, with Hicks in the end zone, for a touchdown in the next match, with 5:15 left.

UW was eliminated three times, but senior Cota Dixon safety forced a fumble and recovered the ball on the kick.

The offense did not however benefit from this game.

Michael Deiter canceled his first fall and left UW third and 14 of his 41 points.

UW gained 7 yards – on a Hornibrook screen at Groshek – and flew.

Iowa took over at 3, moved to 29, but let the last seconds take off.

The Hawkeyes also took advantage of the kickoff in the second half, taking advantage of Hicks and compatriot Deron Harrell to score points.

The big game was a 46-yard bomb from Stanley to Hockenson at UW 6, with Hicks and safety Eric Burrell lagging behind.

UW held when Ryan Connelly blew up a running game for a 4-yard loss on the third goal and the goal of the 2 and Iowa arranged for a 24-yard throw against Miguel Recinos .

UW took the lead thanks to a goof from Iowa's special teams on a kick.

The tight end of the reserve inadvertently touched a ball that was not shot down and UW's Travian Blaylock recovered at Iowa 10.

Hornibrook and Danny Davis hung for a 12-yard touchdown at 5:12 of the quarter, third, and goal.

The conversion of Rafael Gaglianone allowed UW to take a 14-10 lead and surprise the audience at Kinnick Stadium.

The Iowa attack provoked the crowd by cutting the UW defense with ease for 75 yards and a touchdown. Stanley completed 4 of 4 passes for 34 yards, including a 1-yard score at Fant. Recinos added the conversion to put Iowa in front, 17-14, with 1:37 remaining in the quarter.

UW had a promising end to the Iowa 44 when Hornibrook hit Ferguson near the Hawkeyes 30, but the tight end dropped the ball. The Badgers opted for a kick and relied on their defense. Iowa took office at 12 pm with 11:25.

UW's defense has, however, tripled critically, and the Badgers have taken over at 44 after a 37-yard kick.

How would the offense respond? With a brutal triumph while Groshek won nothing on a handoff inside the 3rd and 3rd of Iowa 49.

Iowa took over at 15:08 with 8:34 left and amassed a first before making a jump. UW recovered the ball 12 minutes with 5:40 left.

The Badgers battered the track and disheveled until Hornibrook knocked out the crowd with a 17-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Taylor with 57 seconds left. The conversion of Gaglianone pushed the head to 21-17.

It's time for the defense to take a stand. Edwards, who had a crucial interception against Iowa last season, was again successful.

Ingold sealed the deal and UW was back.
