There is something incredibly satisfying in a Chicago White Sox win, but few wins are more satisfying than those at the expense of the Cubs.
The fact that the former White Sox pitcher, Jose Quintana, was the thrower of the Cubs makes the victory much more rewarding.
Reynaldo Lopez earned the W, making his record 7-9. His last line in the evening was impressive. He made seven innings with five hits and one inning. He hit eight Cubbies and walked one. With this performance, his ERA is 3.94.
Until now, in September, Lopez has played four games. It lasted seven innings in three of those innings. In the other, he went six. He has only two races won this month and has three wins. His only loss in September came against the Angels when the Halos won 1-0 (Lopez did not give up this race).
If he can continue this type of production in 2019, he could win the honor of being the "ace" of the team.
The bullpen had some difficulties (what's up, no?), But the offense was active enough to cover those blunders. Jace Fry faced Daniel Murphy and Kris Bryant, both singles. Fry was replaced by Jose Ruiz who quickly got two outs but then led Ben Zobrist to charge the bases. Ruiz then launched a wild pitch and Murphy scored.
Ruiz continued to struggle and after a simple David Bote face, Bryant also scored. Rick Renteria then put Aaron Bummer in first place and finally in third.
In the ninth, Nate Jones battled four batters, but only throwing eight shots to end the match. He won his fifth win of the season.
Offensively, the Sox hitters shone. Everyone in the lineup has won at least one shot. Matt Davidson and Kevan Smith each have two hits. Yoan Moncada, Welington Castillo and Ryan LaMarre had three. Daniel Palka continued his home escapade with his 27th of the season when he hit for Smith. And Smith also won his second round of the season.
Between Smith and Palka, who both served as DH at night, they racked up five runs with their timely home runs. LaMarre earned three points in the evening but did not score a single point.
The Sox and Cubs will face Saturday night as Lucas Giolito take on Jon Lester.
