EASTON, MASS. (WHDH) – Police are investigating a baby who was found unattended in a basket outside of a target in Easton on Saturday.

Officers responding to a report from a baby found outside the Robert Drive Mall around 1 pm According to Easton Police, an 18-month-old boy was found in a basket.

The child, who seemed safe and sound, was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital to be evaluated.

Witnesses told the police that the baby was accompanied by two adult females and two adult males, and a review of the surveillance video showed that the adults were leaving in a Toyota SUV with Maine license plates.

About an hour later, police said that a man had called the police to report that he had accidentally left his baby behind him.

The incident is under investigation.
