The body of a Navy veteran, who was missing on his honeymoon in Hawaii, was discovered on Friday, officials said.

Maui police said a volunteer found the body of 27-year-old Stephen Kramar on a hill 800 meters from the beach resort where he and his wife were on Molokai Island.

Kramar, a native of Maryland, and his wife, Jeffanie, arrived in Hawaii a few hours after their wedding on September 8th. On Tuesday morning, he went to explore a hiking trail to make sure he was safe for the couple and never returned to the hotel.

Residents have said the area is a dangerous place to hike for those who do not know it.

"He is a very passionate hiker," Jeffanie Kramar told Washington FOX 5 before learning of her husband's death. "He's made 14,000 feet of mountains, he's very extreme, but he knows what he's been doing." The navy for almost three years, so he's trained and experienced.

She has never heard of him again.

After reporting the disappearance, the authorities launched an air and ground search involving helicopters and K-9 units as well as volunteers.

Jeffanie told FOX 5 that the couple were planning to move to McLean, Virginia, upon their return from their two-week honeymoon.

A GoFundMe page set up to help pay Jeffanie Kramar has raised more than $ 16,000 from Sunday.
