PHILADELPHIA OF THE NORTH (WPVI) –

Officials said that a 7-year-old boy died after falling between two cars on Broad Street Line of SEPTA Sunday.

The incident occurred in a southbound train that was near the North Philadelphia train station.

Witnesses told Action News that two children and a man were selling candy between subway cars when one of the boys passed through the train while he was moving.

The doctors said the child died just after 18 hours.

SEPTA closed the Broad Street line between Erie and Girard stations while officials were investigating the incident.

Emotional passengers left the North Philadelphia station Sunday night after being stuck on the train where the incident occurred.

"He dropped all his candies all over the train, while he was picking up the candy he went through the gates to cross the next train," said Douglas Spencer of West Philadelphia. "There were people crying, people who wanted to help, but they could not do much in addition to jumping."

Officials said the boy was with his 11-year-old brother and a 26-year-old man at the time of his death, but not his parents.

Family members cried on the sidewalk on hearing the news of the child's death.

"The adult who was with him should have done better, SEPTA needs to do better," said one family member. "Put a door in the air, put a door."
