ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) – Hundreds of cancer survivors gathered to celebrate life at Anmed Health's annual "Cancer Survivors Day" party.

Music, Dance and Food The annual celebration of cancer survivors was a good time.

"It's an experience, just to meet and greet all the people God blessed and spared them," said Marie Pickens.

9 months ago, Pickens beat breast cancer.

"When going to see a specialist, he tells me you have a lump in your breast." Pickens told 7News.

She says the trip has been long, but she is grateful for every minute as she can now join other survivors to celebrate another year on this Earth.

"God gives me a fresh start," said Pickens. "A new lease for life."

According to Cancer.org, more than one million people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer this year.

However, there is hope for survival and the success of Pickens is proof of that. That's why Anmed Health launches the annual holiday to let others know that they are not fighting alone.

"It's one of the many stops of a long trip for these patients," said registered nurse Pat Eberhardt. "We want them to celebrate where they come from and where they are now."

It's also a chance to thank and honor the health care provider who helps patients get through the ups and downs of the fight against cancer.

"Now, I have my blood family, I have my spiritual family and now I have my medical family," joked Pickens. "I thank God for giving me families everywhere."
