A shipment of overripe fruits to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice contained 540 packages of cocaine with an estimated market value of $ 17,820,000, according to authorities.

On Friday, Texas authorities received a donation of 45 boxes filled with unclaimed packets of bananas.

At the Wayne Scott unit pickup in Brazoria County, correctional officers discovered something special.

"Sometimes life gives you lemons. Sometimes it gives you bananas, "wrote the Criminal Justice Department on his Facebook page. "And sometimes it gives you something you would never expect!"

Surprised of the difference in weight between the different boxes, an officer opened a box and was shocked by what he saw.

"Inside, under a pack of bananas, he found another package," TDCJ said. "Inside" what appeared to be a white powdery substance. "

US customs arrived at the scene and confirmed that the substance was cocaine smuggled into the United States from an undisclosed location.
