A school bus driver was fired for letting the kids get behind the wheel

An Indiana school bus driver was fired after a shocking video showed that students could drive, according to reports.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Joandrea McAtee, 27, faces charges for allowing children as young as 11 years old to take the bus while they were filing students Thursday. a Porter Township School.

The Porter County Sheriff's Department stated that at least three students in turn traveled short distances to Eliza Lake.

"Welcome to Boone Grove, where we let grade 6 students drive a bus with kids," a student posted on Twitter, along with a video of the alleged incident.

Authorities launched an investigation Thursday after a parent reported the bus driver to the school resource officer.

"The students and parents who immediately shared this information should be commended for doing exactly what we teach – seeing something, saying something," Sheriff David Reynolds said in a statement.

McAtee was arrested Friday when she visited the school bus barn to pick up her final pay check. She was held in Porter County Jail on charges of negligence of a dependent.
