SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (CBS Local) – A Tennessee woman is recovering after doctors have removed a 20-pound cyst from her body.
Ashley Walden, 32, had abdominal pain for five years. Walden was first diagnosed with a benign ovarian cyst, but things only got worse when she started gaining weight.
"I took some pregnancy tests," Walden told WTVF. "They came back negative. I ended up in the ER because I was having so much pain. It was at this point that they discovered that the cyst had reached a growth spurt.
After his trip to the hospital, Walden made an appointment to surgically remove the cyst. However, two surgical appointments were canceled because of nervous problems. Dr. Shana Dowell, an OB / GYN from the Vanderbilt Center for Women's Health at NorthCrest Medical Center, finally managed to eliminate the Walden cyst.
"She was walking down the hall and could barely walk," said Mr. Dowell.
"I'm very grateful to him for taking it out," Walden said. "I am here today for my children because of her."
Walden encourages women to make sure they prioritize their health as much as they do other aspects of their lives.
"It's not worth putting your health at risk. One day, it may be too late, "she said.
