The number of murders and other violent crimes committed fell slightly last year, according to new crime statistics released Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The number of cases of manslaughter and murder decreased by 0.7% in 2017 compared to the previous year, according to the data. And while rape has increased by 3% and aggravated assault increased by 1%, violent crime has dropped by 0.2% overall – figures suggesting the rise in crime in recent years are coming to an end.
"Crime declined nationally last year, consistent with our previous analysis of 2017 data in the 30 largest cities in the country," Ames Grawert, Brennan Center Justice Counsel, said in a statement. for justice in New York.
