On the first day of the Memorial Day weekend, a young woman from Wildwood, NJ, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Emily Weinman, 20, of Philadelphia, also faces charges of arrest, bodily fluids and obstruction of last week's indictment by a grand jury Cape May County.

The confrontation began when Weinman repeatedly refused to give his name to the Wildwood officers when they asked him about the presence of alcoholic beverages on the beach. A video taken by a neighbor near the beach showed an officer beating her twice in the head while she was lying on the sand, her legs beating.

The police involved were cleared of wrongdoing after the authorities reviewed the video and police images.

Weinman rejected an offer to bargain in July. Her lawyers said she categorically refuted the charges.

"Under no circumstances do we think that Emily has committed a serious assault on an officer," said defense attorney Steven Scheffler after the July hearing. "Obviously, we think that this whole situation could have been better handled on both sides, frankly, and we hope the prosecutor will understand it at some point."
