The flu season is fast approaching.

Health authorities on the Delmarva Peninsula are urging residents not to wait to be vaccinated.
In Delaware, four cases were confirmed two weeks before the start of the influenza season on September 30th. There has been at least one case in each county.
The flu shot is recommended for people 6 months and older. It is encouraged for people over 65, people with heart or lung disorders, immunosuppressive diseases or diabetes.
As it takes about two weeks after the vaccination so that antibodies that protect against the flu virus infection develop in the body, it is important to get vaccinated as soon as possible to give your body the time to develop immunity.
Flu shots are offered by doctors' offices, many pharmacies and some grocery stores. Here is a list of some clinics offering flu vaccines for the fall of 2018:
- Drive-Thru Influenza Clinic at Peninsula Regional Medical Center will take place from 8:00 to 18:00 Friday, October 12at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium at the intersection of Highway 50 and Hobbs Road in Salisbury. You must be 13 years old or older (13 to 17 years old must bring a parent or legal guardian to sign their consent). The order of a doctor is not necessary. Flu shots at the Drive-Thru Clinic will be free. Participants are encouraged to wear a short-sleeved shirt allowing easy access to the arm.
- the Ocean Pines Health ShowAtlantic General Hospital to Offer Free Influenza Vaccines to Participants Aged 13 and Over from 8 AM to Noon Saturday October 6, at Ocean Pines Community Center at 235 Ocean Parkway. The AGH and Peninsula Regional Medical Center will offer several other health screenings during the event.

Eastern Shore Health District, on the east coast of Virginia, will offer free flu shots Tuesday, October 2from 4pm to 7pm at Health Departments of Accomack County and Northampton and recommended for those who do not have insurance or who have insurance that will not cover the flu shot. Contact the Accomack County Health Department at 757-787-5880 or 757-824-5616 or the Northampton County Health Department at 757-442-6228 for any questions.

Riverside Health System will have free flu shots for children 14 years and older while supplies will be available from 9 am to 4 pm Thursday, October 18, at the Eastern Medicine Family Medicine, 10085, William F. Bernart Circle in Nassawadox.

Atlantic General Hospital / Health System is providing the community flu shot again. It will host annual clinics for ages 13 and up. He will not offer the high-dose flu shot. Donations made at the Atlantic General Hospital flu clinics help offset the cost of future influenza clinics. Here are the AGH clinics:
